What Is the Coordinating Committee?

The Coordinating Committee (CC) is a group of elected leaders in the DSA. CC is composed of four different officer positions and four member-at-large positions. The CC as a whole performs administrative tasks to keep the chapter running and makes decisions on behalf of the chapter when soliciting the membership’s voice democratically is infeasible. Each of the eight members have an equal vote in business matters.

For a more in depth look at the CC consider reading through the chapter bylaws.

Members-at-Large
The Members-at-Large (MALs) take turns planning and chairing monthly General Body Meetings for the whole chapter and monthly meetings of the Coordinating Committee. They also assist with other matters of the chapter as needed, such as organizing the chapter’s office, updating the website, and helping the officers with their many tasks.

Communications Coordinator
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for the internal and external communications of the chapter, including email, social media, communications to DSA members, and press inquiries.

Membership Coordinator
The Membership Coordinator is responsible for welcoming new members, helping members to renew dues, social events, mentorship amongst members, leadership development, and boosting membership engagement.

Secretary
The Secretary takes the minutes for the Coordinating Committee and General Business Meetings and oversees materials such as member records, our Google Drive, physical stored materials, and various documentation of chapter information.

Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for the funds and financial records of the chapter, including paying taxes, as Pittsburgh DSA is a 501c3 non-profit organization in Pennsylvania. They prepare an annual budget and give a report at the Annual Local Convention.
